Visited on Weds evening around 8PM. The place is smaller than I anticipated and much darker when you get inside. I think they're going for ambiance but I do need some light to read the menu without straining. Food was above average. Me and my friend weren't so enthused about their table salsa but their guac was really fresh and full of chunks of fresh guac. Delicioso! My carne asada fajita entree was priced at $14. I thought the food was tasty but admit I was surprised it was plated as it gourmet (aka large white platter with a lot of the plate still showing so as to make the meal appear smaller or fancier). Maybe I was expecting a more traditional grill approach -- like a sizzling skillet. My friend didn't finish her taco dinner (because we filled up on too much chips and guac) and when the waiter came by to check on us he asked if she didn't like and offered to prepare something else to her liking if needed. That's bonus points to me -- an attentive server and a restaurant that wants to make sure you're pleased with the food. The only reason it didn't hit 5-stars is just b/c it was too dark for my taste. But I'd go back again and recommend it to others.

Another great twist on Mexican food. I have the salmon in a pumpkin mole. It is the best salmon out there! They have a nice heated patio too. Not to mention Fat Tire on tap.

Wow. The beginning salsa verde was pretty good so I got the Spicy Chile Verde dinner and it was fan-freaking-tastic. Pulled pork that was falling apart, nice spicy kick, nice sweetness of the pearl onions and corn... overall, amazing.

Love the food. I ordered the seafood enchiladas. Absolutely delicious with a side of grilled potatoes with pearl onions and the perfect blend of seasoning. Like all the Yelpers said....the salsa is YUMMY! DIdnt try the margaritas so cant comment on those. My friend had the salmon dish which was DIVINE. Can't wait to go again. O, and the service was awesome. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful. (Sorry, I forgot his name!)

i liked this restaurant. The overall experience was nice. if i could give a 4.5 star, i would. My firends and I showed up on a Friday night without reservations; so, of course, there was a wait. We decided to head to the bar area and have a drink while waiting. After 30 minutes or so, some bar stools opened up and we ended up eating at the bar. By the way, we got a pitcher of margaritas for $28 for 5 glasses....and it was pretty strong stuff. That was plenty for the 3 of us. Anyway, we ended up ordering some apps. I loved the porcini quesadillas and the duck tostada. Great presentation and good creativity with the flavoring. My friends loved the duck tostada so much that we ordered a 2nd one. Overall I was very satistied with the whole night. I read reviews complaining about the prices. I thought what we had was reasonable. 3 of us ate 4 plates of appetizers for like $43. I was full. I definitely will come back...especially after reading that monday nites are 50%. you must check it out. .

A good place to escape to if you're in the LAX airport area. Good margaritas, enchiladas,chips/salsa, and nice staff.

I have been to this place about a year ago and i loved their food and the service. So I went back the other day with people from work, i was so dissappointed. The service was stil very good and staff were very friendly and cordial but the food is now mediocre. The veggie chilaquilles was very ver salty. The salmon dish with mole was over cooked, dry and very sweet.. Maybe they changed the chef?

The ambience is very nice. It's a perfect spot for happy hour or dating. the food is pretty good. I especially like the duck tamale. I'm not a big fan of tamale but this place has changed my mind. The dcuk was pretty tender & the sauce gave a bit bold flavor. the tamale itself was pretty soft too. The chicken quesadilla was just ok. It's a big blend. We have also ordered the Carne Asada Fajita & the steak was very tender & tasty. the price was not too bad at all considering it's an upscale Mexican restaurant.

I'm not big on Mexican food but I decided to give this place a shot because it's usually pretty busy there. I was unimpressed and it was SO expensive. I ordered the taquitos and I only got 4 small pieces [and it was about $15 I believe]--they weren't good and I wasn't satisfied. My husband got the carne asada salad and he said it was pretty good but he has had better. The margaritas were good too. Our server was a little off-putting, I think he was trying too hard to be hip and cool that it ended up being a bit silly. I wouldn't recommend this place to others--you can get better food [at better prices] elsewhere. I'm still on a quest for decent Mexican food!

yes, the prices are a little high...yes, it is just mexican food...and yes, some of the portions can be small. but boy, do they serve some tasty dishes. if you're willing to spend a little on your meal, i highly recommend this place. the food is very fresh, and not as heavy as traditional mexican. they have standard mexican fare with a contemporary twist, a refreshing divergence from your typical idea of "mexican food". drinks are also good. my favorites are the tamarindo margarita and the ginger lemon drop martini. staff is friendly, and generally attentive. just as a warning, the restaurant space is a little small, so depending on your table, you may be seated a little close to the table next to you (i.e. chair bumping into yours when another patron is being seated, or some narrow squeezes navigating through tables to enter/exit the restaurant). otherwise, this place can be summed up by one word: great. great food, great drinks, great addition to the Plaza El Segundo.

Ok finally a 5 star meal! Took my clients here on Tuesday, had a lunch and first the waiter had a cool hair style, and was a great change of pace. (i'm not gay) anyway, all of our meals were top notch, the presentation was great, fresh, waiter was pleasant and even the person who served us knew what we ordered. How many times at a nicer place does the server say who had the.... it's the little things, as we left the manager or owner thanked us and I forgot the chocolate pudding rocked it was thick with Mexican coffee/chocolate and a citrus whipped cream or cream really tasty. This is a lunch on a nice day with ton's of businesses around it's really rare to find good service/food when it's busy.

My boyfriend and I come here far to often... it is just so good. Probably the best guacamole on earth! Mondays are locals nights and there are great deals on food and margaritas. Also - they have live music which is fun! I would recommend the enchiladas (one red and one green) and a pomegranate margarita. Also the duck tamale was like heaven in my mouth...wow! The staff is really cool - always friendly and always excited to get me a margarita... my kind of people! ( :

Everything is Organic, sustainable and of the highest quality. In a word, incredible. Duck tamale at a Mexican joint? Try it and you'll be a convert. Margaritas are the best I've ever had. Try them all, but my fave is the "Organic" or the "Purist" using only pure ingredients. Tasty indeed. Great service and ambiance. I'll stop in whenever I'm in the area. The patio on a sunny afternoon is the place to hang. Tucked away in the back of the mall, but worth the hunt.

IT's expensive, it's overpriced - But, i love it! It's a treat to be able to get there and I always leave happy and satisfied. Plus, there are veggie options and everything is organic. You get what you pay for. I love it!

I've been looking for a spot like this in LA for some time now! Delicious margaritas, great atmosphere, great food and awesome service. The guacamole is done the way I love - big chunks of avocado and it tastes amazing. The ceviche is pretty damn great too, and I'm not a big ceviche gal so that says a lot. I ordered the veggie burrito, and it was pretty simple - black beans, cheese, rice, onions, peppers...but tasted good. I'll be back for happy hour again soon :)

I just loved this place! My husband and I went with a couple of friends. All of the food was fresh, flavorful and the service with spot on. AND the margaritas are killer! Only real reason I gave it 4 stars was the fact that the margaritas were around $9-$10 and they come in a rocks glass, not happy about that. I dont mind paying that much for an amazing, fresh margaritas but I didnt expect it to come in such a small glass. Otherwise, great little place!

  • Erica F.

The decor is cool and the service was really friendly and cool, but the food doesn't live up to the prices charged. My friend and I had the guacamole (this was the exception to the "doens't live up" rule), it was delicious - fresh and flavorful with just the right amount of cilantro & onions. But the chips were kinda not 100% crisp - it was as if they were slightly undercooked. And not salty enough! I LOVE SALT! Anyways, for dinner we ordered the carne asada fajitas for $14 thinking they would be a big On The Border-esque portion enough for two people to share and then some. Actually, it came out with 3 tiny 4" soft tacos, maybe 4 strips of beef, and a bunch of vegetables. OK, overall the food was tasty, but there was definitely not enough for two ppl to have a satisfying meal. And for $14 I expect to get a hell of a lot more than 0.25 oz. of grilled beef. The other entrees were $20 and above, wonder what those look like.

I've been here two times to date and overall, I think my memory of the first time was better than the end result of the second. Please, don't read this wrong, I still am a fan for a variety of reasons. La Sirena Grill has a nice ambiance, the chips and salsa they serve when you are seated are excellent, and their margaritas are awesome (from what I remember). I also enjoy the freshness of the food and was originally impressed with the flavors they have to offer, including their carne asada among some other tidbits here and there. However, my second time around left me feeling a little bland with their avo-lime salad and their average grade service. I think the only thing that satisfied my appetite was the carne asada I had added to the salad mixed with the great company I had to distract me from the lack of zing the food in front of me had to offer. I recommend this restaurant if you want a nicer grade Mexican restaurant, appropriate for range of events from a date with your hottie, to a night out with the fam, or even with the girls. When all is said and done, they have good quality fare for a decent price. I would give 4 stars, but if I just had a hankering for some good old Mexican food that us SoCal peeps take for granted all too often, you probably wouldn't find me here.

Not exactly excited to write this review as I am much better about writing after the fact. For food that was well presented, served, and cooked, it failed on all aspects of identity. So I totally forget what I ate.

delicious mexican food - lots of great options on the menu. i had the carnitas quesadilla which was huge - i definitely could have split it with someone! i liked the guacamole too - just spicy enough. other dishes at our table looked good - ceviche, tacos, salads. yum!

My boyfriend took me here for date night on an everything-is-50%-off night (yeah, we're both frugal). We must have been idiots to think this wouldn't be the case, but the hostess told us there was a wait of 45 minutes. I put our name in with the intention of walking away and not coming back. But she gave me the little buzzer thing and I told my bf that if it didn't go off in 10 minutes, we'll leave. We walked around the Plaza a bit and then 6 minutes later, returned to La Sirena having already decided to hand our buzzer in and go across to Veggie Grill. When I walked up to the hostess to give her my buzzer (7.2 minutes later) she says with a smile "we can go ahead and seat you right now." SCORE! I was already in love with this place. Then came the chips and salsa..which is my weakness (and a reason I should never live in Texas I might add, where chips and salsa is served at all restaurants, Mexican or not). Salsa was so addictive and fresh. Our waiter Andy? Alex? I can't remember his name but he was a smiler and when he smiled, I smiled. I can't remember what we ordered (some review eh?) I think I got the enchiladas and my bf got the salmon tacos. Both were really really good and well presented. The food was great, but I wouldn't make a habit of this place unless it was on 50% off night. I'm just not one to spend a lot of $$ on food. They only downer was they seated us directly in front of the band, so we had to TALK REALLY LOUD just to be heard over the music. Small price to pay though for being seated so fast. Decor is very nice and it looks like a fun place for a group to come to happy hour. They have a nice patio out back with a neat fire thingy that made me want to roast some marshmallows. Overall, I like this place! And you really can't beat half off night, just be prepared to wait if you aren't a lucky person like myself.

fresh and tasty food. We ordered way too much, but it was all good. The ceviche was good and plentiful. The guac was great, and the salsa and pico de gallo were both fantastic. Cool, trendy place, in strip mall, but don't hold that against them. We'll be back

Great spot for fresh, healthy Mexican food. To top off their great dishes, the margaritas and tequila options are awesome. I have become a fan of their tamarindo margarita, but everything else is good as well. Check it out, you won't be let down.

My favorite restaurant in the South Bay so far! The salsa is to die for - I've tried almost everything on the menu and have loved it all - oh wait I forgot - this weekend I tried a tuna appetizer, and honestly it was a bit fishy tasting and a bit too much sauce in the dish. Other than that everything else has been delish. My only other complaint is the menu is too small :)

Visting Veggie Grill several times, I was always curious about this place. It was suggested for my birthday gathering so I booked a party of 20 for a Saturdays evening. We we in the outdoor patio area with the glass fire pit which was beautiful. Our waitress, Christina was very nice and very attentive. Even though the menu was limited, I was excited about it being organic. The prices were good to me although I thought their drink prices were a little high. The food was fresh and tasty and had great presentation. I met the manager that night and was a little suprised that he did not come out to check on us seeing that I actually had 24 people show up. But anyway, everyone had a great time. Just went back today for 1/2 off Mondays and that is the deal of the century. Live music also. Nice ambiance. I will go back for that for sure!!

Great tasting food - the chips and salsa are so addictive you probably won't be able to eat your main course. My menu favorites include their tortilla soup and their salads -- and their drinks ain't bad either! Good, consistent and fresh Mexican food.

Healthy take on Mexican fare. Husband had chile releno(which he loved) and I had a spinach enchalada which was served with a side of grilled vegetables, this was great. They are lite on cheese and you are full but not over ladden. Monday is 1/2 of food.

A little pricey, esp for lunch but the food is sooo tasty... have had chicken enchiladas, carne asada enchiladas and a carnitas salad and all were delish. The tortilla soup is good, not great - a nice flavor but not crazy about the texture. The service is usually fast and attentive and the margaritas are good. I believe all of the meats are natural/free range/organic/whatever.

the service at the front desk was good. i went with a large group, 10 total. the mango margarita was yummy! waiter service was pretty bad, they only came to our table to take our drink and food orders. I never received a refill, i think only one of us received a soda refill. when our food came the waiter was pushy! trying to shove the large plates onto our table when they didnt fit because the table was so small and we had several cups on it. he was not nice about it at all...The food: i got the steak fajitas; they were bland and the beans and rice were on the saltier side....the chicken enchiladas were okay...it was also overpriced!

La Sirena Grill was such a splendid surprise to my husband and I. We have never dined here and just took a gamble because we were looking for something new. IT WAS DELICIOUS! From the warm tea, to the amazing salsa, to the flavor filled tortilla soup. I can't tell you more about how good it was.

I went here on a Friday night, and it was super busy. This place looks a lot smaller from the outside. We had a party of 5, the wait was about 20 minutes without reservations or call ahead. When we were called on I realized its just a bit bigger on the inside. I think the place was designed to have parties 2-4 at most. We saw that gratuity was added automatically for parties of 6 or more. Chip were served right away and the salsa was different than most places. It was a bit spicier and very good. Drink orders were taken right away, bummer that they don't do blended drinks so I ordered the horchata. It was pretty good. The H was bummed out that they were Coke products as he is a Mt. Dew-a-holic. Kids menus were very good. This place is for tweens who can handle themselves. Tacos were very tasty and like other reviews my taco also fell apart. I was a just a bit bummed out the rice and beans portions were so small, 3 or so bites of each. Why the huge plates? Service was top notch. Our drinks were always filled and we were always waited on. The music was not too loud and fit the ambiance, no pop/rock music that night. I will have to come back sans the kiddies on a Monday.

my friend picked me up from lax on monday afternoon, and we had lunch here. it was about 3 pm, so it was empty. i think they just opened or something, and there was a photographer taking pix of all the dinner entrees, which looked delish. we had the lunch menu, so i had the grilled veggie quesadilla, and my friend had the chicken enchiladas. the quesadilla was really good and came w/ guac, some greens, corncake, and some pickled peppers. this is definitely mexican food for white people, but at least it's clean and doesn't make you feel as fatty. that's s. bay LA for you.

loved the food and atmosphere - wish I could remember the waiters name because he rocked and was super attentive. the margaritas are made with fresh lime, very much like the ones you get in Mexico, and the cerviche is one of my fav dishes on the menu

La Sirena is tucked away on the backside of El Segundo Plaza. The food is all organic/sustainable, but the menu is limited. Thursdays are 50% off pitchers so that is a plus as are the yummy chips and salsa. We ordered a pitcher of strawberry margaritas with a few shots of tequila, the guac, carne asada enchiladas and the spicy chili verde (a Mexican stew of sorts with braised natural pork, potatoes, brussel sprouts(!), cippolini onions, corn). Overall it was ok, but nothing special. I'd return for the drinks and ambiance though.

This is more nouveau-Mexican than traditional Mexican. I am a fan of both, but this place is especially good. The food is fantastic, the decor is extremely cool, and the service is great. For dinner its tough to beat the Enchiladas Mariscos. The duck appetizer rocks, too. You really cannot go wrong with anything on either the lunch or the dinner menu. Pros: Decor, live music on Mondays and Thursdays, great tasting and looking food, Carlos behind the bar, and the tequila selection. Cons: If there are any, it would be the house margarita. It's OK, but not great. If you like Mexican food, do yourself a favor and check this place out.

Stopped by here Saturday night after work for a cocktail. I was suprised. They close the kitchen at 10pm on a Saturday. Even more suprising, they poured out of jiggers! That was the end of my margarita drinking. I will not drink cocktails at a place that uses jiggers. I will though come back n try the food. The ambiance is nice. Dark, clean, and rustic feeling.

3.5 stars ... I have to agree with everyone here. I came hoping to really like it. I found the service of the initial greeting, seating, order taking and bringing food to be excellent. But past that ... really lacking. The wine list is excellent, and higher than normal prices but excellent quality so seems worth it. (approx $10 per glass) There is a $15 corkage fee here to bring your own. I ordered the fajitas and got a combo of steak and chicken. They were served on the bed of beans, etc. (really hard to see as it was very dark in the restaurant) But the steak was a nice piece of tasty meat, nicely marinated, grilled and cut into strips (not steak nuggets like some serve). The chicken was excellent as well. My wife had a nice salmon salad with a lot of great veggies, avocados, etc. But almost as soon as the food arrived, the waiter came back and asked how it was. Then disapeared before I could ask for another glass of wine. I had to grab a bus boy to get water refills. It seems like a lot of restaurants in the south bay suffer from the lack of service. This hits them in a few ways ... first, revenues for the restaurant. Next, the impression of the overall dining experience. But last, the waiter's tips - lower total = less tips, and poor service = lower percentage. (I was a waiter when I got my masters ... waiting table is pretty easy to do it right)

This was an overpriced Mexican restaurant that wasn't particularly good in any major way. If you want better organic mexican, take a trip to Senor G's in Playa Del Rey. If you want better Authentic Mexican, head to Paco's Tacos... and for a quick trip Taqueria Sanchez. As you probably noticed, I love my mexican food. This was mediocre at best, and well overpriced for what you get. Save your money and get something better.

The Beach cities really lacks good food, so my fiance and I were pleasantly surprised by La Sirena. This restaurant is good by LA standards and PHENOMENAL by South Bay standards. Most of the Mexican restaurants around here either cater to the 2am or hangover crowd. They definitely serve their own purpose...but it is really refreshing to eat Mexican food that is organic, free-range, wild, etc. And yes, it is a bit pricey for Mexican...but it's all relative. We're just not used to paying the premium for fresh good food. It's about time someone changed the Mexican food scene in South Bay. This place is solid. The only complaint I have is that they cook their chips for too long. Its nice to have a restaurant in our area that didn't just rip open a Sysco box, fry it up, and serve it.

    (4)
  • Ryan S.

Went here for lunch with a buddy. The chips were really good but would have preferred a more standard spicier salsa than the smoky flavor they have. I ordered the avo-lime salad with chicken and had the dressing on the side. It was a good salad but $13 for a lunch salad is a bit much. Great decor and atmosphere so I will come back for dinner and drinks sometime for sure.

Really 4.5 stars. In terms of Mexican fare, La Sirena Grill is a pleasant departure from your standard Mexican restaurant. Located in the Blue Butterfly shopping center in El Segundo, they try to create a more inviting experience. Love the dimmed environment as you come in. The place is deceptively small but they are extremely creative with the use of space & even make room for a full bar in the back. Nice atmosphere - casually upscale, but not in a pretentious way, more in the way of rustic wood tables & chairs. Arrived around 5:30 on a week night with the boyfriend. No wait other than to wait for the hostess to return from seating the guests in front of us so we immediately got a table up front next to the door. The initial issue for us was the door kept getting stuck open which created a total draft of wind through our table. We instantly recognized we would freeze to death if we stayed there so we let the hostess know we needed to move. I expected her to be annoyed as the restaurant was quickly filling up but I was impressed with how earnestly she tried to find us a warm spot - really sweet. A nice start followed up by warm, super-crispy chips & delightfully spicy salsa - not downright hot but its got a nice kick to it. Nice service by a friendly young man. He encouraged us to share the Chile Relleno for an appetizer. Great idea. Loved how wonderfully it was prepared with a crispy breading & topped with a fresh mango pico de gallo type thing. Different than what I'm used to but I liked the difference & the fresh ingredients used to prepare it. I ordered the Veggie Enchiladas which comes with the option of Red OR Green sauce. Cool - I like the fact that you get the option. Ordered it with the Green sauce because our waiter suggested it was spicier. Really enjoyed it. Can't say, I would have it every time since I'm more a Red sauce type but I really dug the different flavors of the green sauce - brighter, tangier. Unfortunately the boyfriend wasn't as equally stoked on his Carne Asada Fajitas. Mostly I think he was a disappointed in the portion size but I realize this isn't El Tarascos or a Mexican food truck...that's his usual almost daily experience so I understand the perspective. I on the other hand was so stuffed, I had to take one of the enchiladas home in a to go box. Service was consistent through out our meal. Food took a little long to come out but they were on top of the drink situation & we were constantly monitored & updated on the status of our meal as we waited. Couldn't have wanted for more conscientious service. Fresh ingredients & creative expressions of standard Mexican dishes are what set this place apart. I'm sure we'll back for more!

Came here with some friends. Monday's they have a half off menu, and house margaritas are only $5.00. Food is ok, nothing special. Atmosphere is great, and most of the wait staff is great; like everywhere there are a few bad apples though. Only reason they are not getting five stars is because they messed up my friends order and didn't want to fix the mistake. Seriously, the plate hadn't even been touched.

I had the chicken wet burrito with red sauce and it was very good. I will try the carnitas burrito next time. Also had the ceviche appetizer, very nice presentation and it was delicious. My only concern was the strawberry margarita, I couldn't taste the tequila in it. Okay, two things maybe I deserved a light margarita being that it was a "Strawberry on the rocks" margarita which most definitely is a girlie drink, or two, I'm a lush and my taste buds crave a more explicit agave experience. The green salsa and chips are a good start to a tasty Mexican feast.

Good atmosphere, nice bar, nice seating for dinner, limited but decent menu. GREAT selection of tequilas, food was fresh, presented nicely and well priced. Food was flavored well but everything was pretty salty, even the guacamole. Service was quick and friendly even with mostly full tables. Pleasant dining but really better for drinks and appetizers.

Just got back from LA Sirena: The spicy duck tamale is a must as an appetizer and can be shared with one other person. Don't expect a traditional tamale look. The shredded flavorful duck is sandwiched between two stacks of sweet corn tamale and garnished with crispy onions. There's a small side of grilled corn black beans mix that was yummy. We devoured the whole plate in seconds. Entrees: I had their special...spinach enchilada. I liked that the spinach was organic; the dish was suprisingly and not drenched with sauce or cheese and he two enchiladas were not gigantic. The jicama carrot side was much to be desired--tasted like mexican version of a cole slaw. Not impressed with that. My husband had the beef fajita. It did not come out sizzling on a plate but he thought it was flavorful and I like that the beef is grass fed and they use organic ingredients. I also had the corn pudding as a side. It was a serving of corn tamale mixture with the corn-black bean mix and a slightly sweet drizzled white sauce. It was good but by that time I was stuffed. All in all the duck tamale was the best thing there. Portions were not oversized and ingredients were organic and local. Our bill was $47 (including drinks) without tax. I would come back on a Monday for their 50 percent off special but would probably want to try other restaurants before coming back here and paying full price.

Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla.
